Thank you for your interest in our forthcoming seminar.

In addition to our work in schools Briony Jenkins and Judy Bould work around the country running seminars for people who are interested in obtaining similar work for themselves. Briony worked as an artist for a number of years and then as a primary school teacher before setting up Pigeon Ltd. Judy works as a printmaker and photographer in addition to working with Pigeon since shortly after it was set up.

During the seminar you will receive a combination of advice on how to approach schools to obtain work, professional practise when working in schools and hands-on practical art activities. We will offer advice on financial practicalities, gathering resources, advertising yourself and will also provide the opportunity for you to meet people with similar interests from your local area.

The largest part of the day will be spent doing practical artwork that can be taken straight into schools. The focus for the Birmingham workshop on the 15th July will be textiles. We will be working in batik, on silk, weaving, printmaking onto fabric and sewing. All of these activities will be presented in a way that can be taken into classrooms, with advice on classroom management, organisation and how to adapt the activities for children of different ages.

Our workshop seminars have relevance for artists who are interested in working in schools and for other professionals. You may be someone who is already working in a school as a teaching assistant, as an art co-ordinator or as an art advisor for a council. We would expect to send you away with fresh ideas and input which you can use directly or as a starting point for your own ideas.

The cost of the course is £350 and will include a two course lunch and refreshments throughout the day. The price for the day includes all materials and notes on what has been covered over the day. Any work you produce on the day is yours to keep.
